If it's your first time getting a Sheerwave IPL 360 treatment, we want to make sure your experience is as worry-free as can be. Find below common questions along with pre and post-appointment care tips:

It’s your first time getting a Sheerwave IPL 360 (intense pulsed light) treatment, and you’re not sure what is going to happen. You’re unsure if you should shave, or moisturize or do nothing at all? Don’t worry, after this article, you’ll seem like a seasoned pro.

About Sheerwave IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) 360

At our spa, we offer an innovative skin rejuvenation treatment called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy to improve a variety of benign skin conditions.

Such as;

  • Acne
  • Scars
  • Freckles
  • Birthmarks
  • Spider veins
  • Fine wrinkles
  • Stretch marks
  • Unwanted hair
  • Discolored skin
  • Liver or age spots
  • Broken blood vessels
  • Redness from rosacea
  • Brown spots (liver or age spots)
  • Dark spots from hormonal changes

Also referred to as Photofacial or Photo-rejuvenation, this non-invasive, painless technique employs light-based energy to penetrate deep into the skin, treating targeted areas of discoloration and irregular pigmentation at their source for a more even, healthy skin tone.

  • For your safety and security, your technician may ask some medical questions before your procedure. Please notify them if there are any changes to your health status or skin analysis i.e. if you are pregnant, using new medications, recently had been exposed to the sun, or used self-tanners.
  • It is important to undergo a patch test prior to treatment. As IPL applications may interact differently with each skin type, a skin test will be performed 24 hours to two (2) weeks prior to the treatment to ensure there will be no adverse side effects.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds 6-8 weeks prior and self-tanners 2-3 weeks before your IPL treatment. SPF must be used during the course of treatment. Please note any system or supplement that darkens/bronzes the skin will postpone your IPL skin rejuvenation treatment.
  • Areas to be treated must be cleaned prior to the treatment. Avoid creams, oils, perfumes, and aluminum base antiperspirants the day of your treatment.
  • For your safety and protection, the IPL 360 is FDA and Health Canada-approved.

  • It is normal for the hair to continue to grow until all sessions are complete; however, you will notice that fewer and less hair will grow back after each IPL treatment.
  • Your skin will return to its natural color shortly after IPL treatment, however, very rarely, some pink or redness may linger for a day or two. Avoid scratching the skin.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, hot baths, saunas, and tight clothing for a period of 48 hours post-treatment.
  • Avoid all sun exposure and tanning beds for three (3) weeks post IPL, and ensure to apply sunscreen daily and reapply often.

  • Significantly less hair grows back after each treatment.
  • It is essential that the recommended treatment schedule is followed for the best results. Multiple IPL sessions are required at 4 to 6-week intervals. Touch-ups may be required.
  • Use the products recommended by your service provider on the treated areas of your skin. Hydrate your skin with a high-quality moisturizer.
  • Avoid using products with Retina-A, alpha-hydroxy acids, glycolic acids, or astringents for a period of thirty (30) days post-treatment.
  • Do not rub, scratch, or exfoliate the area for seven (7) days post-treatment.
  • Gentle exfoliation can be performed 7 to 10 days after completion of IPL treatment.
  • Good quality hydration and SPF protection of the treatment area are recommended.
  • Apply moisturizer daily and sunscreen when outside.
